Furnace Humidifiers

The humidifiers are used for maintaining the level of humidity in the homes. It facilitates you to maintain a healthy humidity level inside your rooms.

A humidifier, which is attached to the furnace of your room, provides several advantages compared to the freestanding models, most remarkably that you just require one furnace humidifier for humidifying your whole house. Usually, you can fit a furnace humidifier when the heating system of your home is installed, because the furnace humidifiers are intended to be completely integrated. You can also attach one compatible model subsequently. However, please make a note that this process is not applicable for all furnaces.

There are several techniques used for increasing the humidity. Most of the techniques used in the tabletop form of the furnace humidifiers just make use of 2 to 3 standard methods. Actually, the furnace humidifiers mostly use the cool mist technique, because the other option like warm mist technique is costlier to run and require more maintenance.

The evaporative wick method was the commonest choice even up to few years back. This method used to make use of a sponge for soaking water, which was subsequently passed in the air. But the sponge or the filter required cleaning or/and replacement in regular intervals to check the growth of bacteria. Nowadays, the rotating disc or the impeller is used most commonly. It is an efficient, effective, and low maintenance design. This system flushes out the built up deposits in regular frequency with the help of an automated cleaning system.

The bypass humidifier is another popular type of furnace humidifiers. It uses the degree of difference of pressure between the supply and return plenums on a furnace for moving air through it with the use of minimal electricity. It consists of a metal or plastic cabinet, a rotating drum with the motor, reservoir, and float. Accurately mounted on supply plenum, the warm air is forced in the cabinet and flows over the drum. The rotating drum is a foam fabric or sponge prolonged over the plastic frame. The drum is slowly rolled through the water tray by a small motor. The tray contains water provided by the domestic supply system. A float valve regulates the water supply to the humidifier system. As the wet drum remains exposed to the warm water flow, water evaporates to humidify the air. This humidified air is ducted into the home by mixing with the air supply after being introduced in the return air plenum.

A steam humidifier is required as the electric furnace air and the heat pump are not warm enough for evaporating water as easily done by a fuel-burning furnace. An element intended for heating is immersed in the water of the reservoir and acts to generate steam as the line current passes through it. A switch included in the control wiring is used to turn on the blower for additional humidification.
