Room Humidifiers

Room humidifiers are appliances, which help improve the level of humidity of an enclosed space. It maintains respiratory health and keeps the structural components in our homes from drying out. They are becoming essential part of a household these days. To ensure whether one needs a humidifier or not the best way is to measure the humidity level of the room. You need a hygrometer to do so. This instrument monitors the air we breathe to maintain it at an optimum level.

There are different kinds of room humidifiers found these days. The most important question which arise here is that what kind of humidifiers to go for? Humidifiers are rated for coverage area in sq. ft. One should take the measurements to determine the correct room size. If the humidifiers are too large for the room, condensation will occur on the insides of the windows, and bacteria and mold could grow in this environment.

Refilling of humidifiers is convenient these days as various sizes of room units are available. More the run, quicker the fill will be. One should go for humidifier, which shuts off automatically when the water reservoir is empty. A great feature available now a day is built in humidistat that regulates the operation to maintain the set humidity level in your home. Filters trap the deposits and reduces the dust which otherwise might accumulate on the furniture and make them dusty. Regular cleaning should be done to reduce the bacterial growth. Models having dishwasher safe water reservoirs make the cleaning easier. The base of the unit requires manual cleaning regularly.

One potential problem encountered is the growth of bacteria and fungi inside the tanks of room humidifiers that subsequently get released in the room with the mist. Breathing this dirty mist can cause serious lung problems like simple flu-like symptoms. It can also cause serious infection. This becomes more severe for patients suffering from asthma whose symptoms may be increased. If the humidifier is for a bedroom then it should be of low sound or should have a silent option. Ultrasonic humidifiers use higher frequency vibration to blow water into the air. That is what makes them among the quietest of humidifiers. Humidifiers usually produce cool mist. Ultrasonic ones produce cool or warm humidity from the same unit.

All types of humidifiers have advantages as well as disadvantages. You must be willing to clean and maintain the unit. Cool mist humidifiers are safer as they don't heat water, thus minimizing the risk of accidental scalding. Evaporative ones might take 6 hours to raise the humidity level. Warm mist types too produce faster results. You will find many reasonably priced humidifiers. You can purchase multi room humidifiers too, depending on whether you want to treat the entire house or just one room.
