Cool Mist Humidifiers

Cool mist type of humidifiers is the most frequently used among all humidifiers. The cool mist humidifiers function by vaporizing water through a fast turning disk present inside the water of the humidifiers. The vapor generated by the humidifiers is not hot, so there is no danger of your child getting burnt from the spilled water.

The cool mist or cool moisture humidifiers helps greatly in improving the level of humidity in the air. There are two types of cool mist humidifiers, the ultrasonic humidifiers and evaporative humidifiers.

The evaporative humidifiers make use of a fan for blowing the dry air of the room through a wick filter, which is evaporative in nature. A special kind of absorbent paper-based substance is used to make the wick filter. It fits in the humidifier's base and absorbs the water available inside. When the air is blown by the fan through this wick filter, the water present in this filter evaporates and gets dispersed in the room as humidified air.

The electricity consumed by your cool mist humidifier is minimal, as this process does not make use of any heating device. You need to regularly replace the wick filter for best results. There is a possibility of the development of bacteria, fungi, and mold on the wick because this paper-based wick sits inside the water. You can stop the bacterial development by using the antibacterial cartridges and by carrying out some bacteria treatments in the water tank of the humidifier. Cleaning the water tank of your cool mist humidifier everyday with water and soap will facilitate you to get rid of the problems of germs growth. Preferably you should replace the wick filter once in two months. However, your frequency of using your cool mist humidifier and the hardness of the water may influence the life span of the wick filters.

The ultrasonic humidifiers are the other type of cool mist humidifiers. Such humidifiers do not employ a fan for blowing the air through the wick filter. Instead, it makes use of a little diaphragm made of metal. This diaphragm vibrates at the ultrasonic frequency to break down the water in the form of small droplets of water and turns into fine mist. The ultrasonic humidifiers make use of very low electricity and quite silent in nature.

These humidifiers discharge minerals from the water. You may find white accumulation of the minerals settled on the furniture close to the humidifier. It looks like a super-fine dust layer. These dust are not harmful, however, you can reduce the development of white dust by using demineralization cartridges or distilled water. Besides these cartridges these humidifiers don't need any other replacement filters. Some of the high-end models of ultrasonic models are designed with a warm mist feature too.
